Analysis of Drilling Holes for Precast Piles and Drill Pipes for Cast-In-Place Piles -1

undefined

According to different construction methods, piles can be divided into precast piles (prestressed pipe piles) and cast-in-place piles (drill-pipe cast-in-place piles). They both are widely used in soft soil foundations and deep-buried foundations. They have the characteristics of high bearing capacity, good stability, small settlements, and low material consumption and can effectively meet the building’s strength, deformation, and stability. The two types of piles have their characteristics, different construction methods, different mechanical equipment, and construction techniques. Their mechanism and application are distinguished. This article will compare these two types of piles and analyze their advantages, disadvantages, and application to determine whether to choose prestressed pipe piles or bored piles.

Prestressed pipe pile is a hollow pipe body slender concrete prefabricated component made by pre-tensioning technology, high-speed centrifugal steam curing molding method with adding high-efficiency water reducing agent. It is mainly composed of a cylindrical pile body, endplate, and steel hoop.

A bored pile is a pile made by drilling a hole at the engineering site, digging a slag hole where the soil is broken, placing the steel frame in the pile hole, and then pouring concrete into the pile.

The prestressed pipe piles and bored piles are compared and analyzed from the perspectives of mechanism, construction conditions, construction technology, and construction cost.

Mechanism

Prestressed pipe piles may reach the required depth by drill pipe pressure. During the piling process, the surrounding soil around the pile body is squeezed out, causing pore water pressure, uplift, and lateral compression in a short period. In soil, stress will affect the scope of existing buildings, the content and the deformation of roads. At the same time, it will squeeze the completed construction pile to make it drift and float.

Drill pipe bored piles are made by the dry or mud retaining method. During the process of pore formation and pile formation, the surrounding piles have no squeezing effect on the soil, and will not cause excessively high pore water pressure in the soil. Therefore, the construction of piles will not endanger the safety of adjacent buildings and roads. Therefore, compared with prestressed pipe piles, bored piles have the characteristics of no vibration, no compaction effect, and less impact on surrounding buildings. But the concrete strength and the bearing capacity of the pile body are lower and the settlement is larger.
