YG4C---Tungsten Carbide Buttons

undefined

Tungsten carbide, also known as cemented carbide, hard alloy, or tungsten alloy, is one of the hardest tool materials in the world, after diamond. Tungsten carbide buttons are the popular one of tungsten carbide product. ZZBETTER provides different grades of tungsten carbide buttons, such as YG4C, YG6, YG8, YG9, and YG11C. In this article, you can see the following information about YG4C tungsten carbide buttons:

1. What does YG4C mean?

2. Properties of YG4C tungsten carbide buttons;

3. Manufacturing of YG4C tungsten carbide buttons;

4. Applications of YG4C tungsten carbide buttons.

What does YG4C mean?

Tungsten carbide buttons are mainly made of two kinds of raw materials. One is the tungsten carbide powder, and the other is binder power, usually cobalt or nickel powder. YG means cobalt powder is used in the tungsten carbide buttons as the binder, which is to combine tungsten carbide particles tightly. "4" means there is 4% cobalt in tungsten carbide buttons. “C” means the grain size of YG4C tungsten carbide is coarse.

Properties of YG4C tungsten carbide buttons

YG4C has the highest hardness we can achieve now, which is about 90 HRA. The amount of tungsten carbide powder is a factor in the hardness of tungsten carbide buttons. In principle, the higher amount of tungsten carbide powder will lead to higher hardness. However, too much tungsten carbide powder will result in weakness of itself because cobalt powder is not enough to bind tungsten carbide particles. The density of YG4C tungsten carbide is around 15.10 g/cm3, and the transverse rupture strength is around 1800 N/mm2.

Manufacturing of YG4C tungsten carbide buttons

As with other kinds of tungsten carbide products, we have to mix tungsten carbide powder, mill them, and dry them. After these, we will compact them into the shapes we want and sinter them in the sintering furnace. Here is something different in manufacturing YG4C tungsten carbide buttons, such as the different amounts of cobalt when mixing and the different shrinkage coefficient of YG4C when sintering.

Application of YG4C tungsten carbide buttons

YG4C tungsten carbide buttons are mainly used as small buttons for percussion bits to cut soft and medium hard formations and can be used as inserts of rotary prospecting bits to cut soft and medium hard formations. They can also be used to cut hard rocks.
